Lullaby

No one sang me to sleep,
Footsteps,
My only lullaby.

Feet bound by shoelace,
They cannot feel
The insensitivity of their steps.

Agitated
I am, in a reluctant embrace of body heat,
Breathing through my skin-
The blemished cement.

There is no room for complaints,
My thoughts are flooding into storm clouds,
Ready to shatter

In response to the nocturnal lamp posts
And their vulgar brown lights
Pouring over my head like hot coffee;
Baptizing me into insomnia.

The night sky hovers,
Staying dark even with this brewing cacophony;
I hate its bed of stars and mockery,
A sarcastic grin of
Tantalizing sympathy.

I thought about suffocation,
I will wager my awakening for a moment of rest,

My eyelids are heavy,
But I can’t put them down
Because I am floating
On a bed of broken words.
